Quote to Consider

Posted by Parkside Youth Admin on Jan 14 2008

During our study in the book of Proverbs we talked about how we can be reckless with our words if we are not careful (Proverbs 12:18). This was a quote from that night that you asked for and I wanted to post it for us to continue to think about. Gary Brady, a pastor in London writes,

“Whenever we have in mind to criticize a person or praise someone; to reveal a truth to or about a person; to give people our opinion, or to tell them about what to do we need to think carefully about the effect our words will have.”

  1. Keith Schmader Says:

Looking back I can say that this is something I’ve really worked quite hard on. Back in middle school I was a real hard headed and hearted individual, but with God’s leading I’ve been able to better develop into someone who lives to glorify God through even the words I use while conversing with others. One thing I always think of is that even though we want to be truthful and honest oftentimes we are so truthful that we can be brutal. Although I still struggle with being brutally honest it is because of the consistent thoughts of will what I say effect this person in a negative way. If I come to the conclusion that what I say will effect the person in a negative way I then ask myself if it is utterly necessary for this person to be revealed this truth. Usually it isn’t necessary to point out this small truth and so instead I keep my mouth shut. If you’re anything like me you will understand what an opinionated, long winded individual such as myself use to struggle with on a severe level and how God has revealed himself to me through verses such as Proverbs 12:18 and James 1. …sorry for length on this an extraordinary amount of ‘I’s’ were used in this reply, but hopefully it will help someone else or at least someone may be able to relate…
