Faith & Technology: Parents’ Night

faithandtechparents

Facebook.  Myspace.  Twitter.  Texting.  In a rapidly changing world, it can be difficult for parents to keep pace with all the technology that their students are being exposed to and how to best guide them towards making wise decisions with it.  Realizing this, Parkside Youth has asked Tim Challies, a noted Christian author and blogger (www.challies.com), to address parents of middle school and high school students on the world we live in and what it means for our families.  Please join us this Wednesday (Sept. 16) in the Commons of Parkside Church (7100 Pettibone Rd., Chagrin Falls) as Tim discusses discipling and shepherding our students in a technological world, and answers any questions parents might have!

Please RSVP to youth@parksidechurch.com if you plan to attend.  Feel free to call us at 440.542.1212 if you have any questions.

Faith & Technology Nights

faithandtechstudentsEach day, all of us are surrounded by technology: we text our friends, we listen to our iPods, we post pictures on facebook, we might have even gotten into Twitter (or at least signed up to get Shaq’s tweets, because he’s a funny dude).  But I wonder if any of us have really stopped to think about how our faith in Christ impacts the way we use all that technology…in other words, how do the principles that Jesus talks about impact our lives online?

This week, we’re hosting two events having to do with faith & technology.  The first is for your parents, and it is on Wednesday from 7-9pm at the church, and it’ll help them learn about what technology is out there and how to best interact with you on it.  If they’re interested in coming, more info can be found on the church’s site.  The second event will be at SI on Thursday, and it’ll be geared towards you as a student, where we’ll think together about how we can live out our faith in a technological world.  Both sessions will be taught by a guy named Tim Challies, who is a Christian author and blogger that you might have heard of.  (He has a pretty cool blog that you can check out: www.challies.com).  It should be pretty interesting, so we look forward to seeing you there!

Cedar Point

Zero to 120mph in 3.8 seconds.  420 feet straight up.  420 feet straight down.  Going so trainfast that you can’t move your head from the back of the seat.  Tears coming out of your eyes because of the wind.  Know what I’m talking about?  Yep, the Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point.  I just went a couple weekends ago with some of my friends, rode in the front car, and it was incredible…(word to the wise: ride it in the day, because bugs tend to come out at night, and when bugs meet humans going 120mph….well, let’s just say your shirt needs a little stain treatment…haha)

All that to say that we’re headed to Cedar Point this year as a youth group on Saturday, September 19.  We’ll be leaving from the WH at 9:30am and returning there around 11pm.  If you’ve never been before, it’s a pretty incredible experience.  And the whole idea is for you to bring your friends: so, to encourage that, if you come by yourself, it’ll cost $30, but if you bring a friend, it’s only $20 each.

Want to go?  Download the flyer and mail it into Caitie at the church.  Do it soon, because we only have so many spots…
